Support for low income South Australians who are renting

2017-02-16

About 29,000 South Australian tenant households will receive a $100 concession payment this month, to help with the cost of living.

The Cost of Living Concession was introduced in 2015 to help South Australians on low or fixed incomes. The concession is available to eligible homeowners, tenants in private accommodation and Housing SA tenants. It provides the flexibility for people to use the payment wherever it is needed most, to support themselves and their families.

Eligible tenants who applied for the 2016-17 COLC will start receiving their payments directly into their nominated bank account from this week. Most of these payments should have been finalised by March.

More than 150,000 homeowners, retirement village and residential park residents have already received the COLC for 2016-17.

Applications for the 2017-18 COLC will open from 1 July 2017.

The Cost of Living Concession is one of a range of household concessions provided by the State Government to assist vulnerable and disadvantaged households to meet their cost of living expenses. Pensioners, people receiving Centrelink payments and those on low incomes may be eligible for concessions for energy, water, sewerage and the Emergency Services Levy.

These concessions are managed by the Department for Communities and Social Inclusion (DCSI).
