Community Connect family and community development programs

Last Updated Sep 2009

This program allocates funds to non-government organisations and local government authorities to provide a range of community based services that are consistent with DFC’s aims. Services include:

  • Families with children programs provide support and strengthen families, keeping children and young people safe, nurtured and able to realise their potential. Intervention types, following agency referral and assessment, focus on home-based services, family support services, parent education groups and counselling.
  • Neighbourhood development programs support people where they live and include community centres and neighbourhood houses and ensure community connection opportunities are available to all.
  • Low income support programs alleviate and reduce the effects of poverty through financial/budget counselling and education programs, resources and information for non government organisations and low income clients around entitlements and support programs, as well as research and data collection on poverty trends in South Australia.

The Northern Metropolitan Aboriginal Council and the Aboriginal Legal Rights Movement provide a range of services to reduce and alleviate the effects of poverty through financial counselling and advocacy, together with strategies including targeted information and community education programs.
