There is very strong evidence that children and young people under guardianship experience significant health problems in addition to abuse or neglect. Rapid Response recognises that for a variety of reasons children and young people under the guardianship of the Minister often have difficulty accessing health services. They are also highly likely to experience incomplete or fragmented health care. Given this severe disadvantage, children and young people under guardianship care must have priority access to multidisciplinary health services to address their health needs.

Health Standards for Children and Young People under the Guardianship of the Minister is Health’s response to Rapid Response and was produced under the auspices of the Across Government Guardianship Steering Committee.
