The Department for Families and Communities (DFC) is now the Department for Communities and Social Inclusion (DCSI). Families SA, including the child protection and family support functions, is now part of the new Department for Education and Child Development. Youth Justice remains with DCSI and the Department now includes  Multicultural SA, Northern Connections, Office for the Southern Suburbs, Office for Volunteers, Office for Women, Office for Youth and Social Inclusion. Contact details for these offices are available on the Contacts page.

The department is currently reviewing its online information and updates are in progress. Departmental information can still be found using the search function on this site. For more information about South Australian government services please visit www.sa.gov.au.

 

Freedom of information and privacy

The South Australian Freedom of Information Act of 1991 promotes openness and accountability in South Australian Government. The Act gives you a legal right of access to information held by all government departments, subject to certain privacy and other specific exemptions. You can also ask to have personal records amended if the information is incomplete, incorrect, out of date or misleading.

Information privacy

Information privacy refers to individual’s right to exercise some control and influence over the way information about them is collected, used, stored and disclosed.

The Department for Families and Communities is committed to protection of people’s privacy. All DFC staff and agencies are bound by the Code of Fair Information Practice. This document contains the privacy principles which guide the collection, use, disclosure and handling of personal information.
