Advocacy

Last Updated Jul 2011

Many people who were in Out of Home Care in South Australia as children are eligible for Post Care Services assistance and this includes a number of people who now live interstate – there could be as many as 15,000 who are eligible for the services Post Care Services provides.

Post Care Services has 4 staff members, (two full-time & two part-time), and it uses its resources effectively by focussing on community development – assisting services in the community to understand and be able to provide an effective service to care leavers. Post Care Services advocates for you by:

  • Contacting services you may need (in writing, by phone or in person possibly with you) and explaining your situation and asking whether they can prioritise a service for you.
  • Post Care Services will advocate with various services on your behalf. This will depend on what you need and will be related to your experiences in Out of Home Care as a child or needs that have arisen from that time.
  • Assisting in an area of your life that was neglected as a child in care.
