Six not-for-profit providers to bid Domiciliary Care

2017-09-04

Six experienced not-for-profit organisations will be invited to tender for management of the Department for Communities and Social Inclusion’s (DCSI’s) Domiciliary Care services.

The transfer of the service from the State Government to non-government management has attracted strong interest from the sector, with more than 20 responses to the initial Expression of Interest.

DCSI Deputy Chief Executive Lois Boswell said she is encouraged by the level of interest from the market.

“Client and staff feedback has been very clear that people want the new, non-government management of Domiciliary Care to be focussed on clients and services over profit,” Ms Boswell said.

“This is reflected in our selection criteria, which also spells out that the new provider must be reliable and experienced, and must offer staff the support, flexibility and resources they need.

“I am very optimistic that, through this extensive, careful process, we will find a good match for the services Domiciliary Care clients require now and into the future.

“In-home support services like Domiciliary Care play an important role for older South Australians, maintaining people’s independence and keeping them closely linked with their family and local community.

“Now that the Commonwealth has taken over funding aged care, the State Government is adapting some of its services and Domiciliary Care is being transferred to a non-government provider.

It is intended that the new manangement will be in place by 1 July 2018.

DCSI’s Domiciliary Care will continue to provide services and accept new clients through the ongoing transfer process.

People can contact Domiciliary Care services on 1300 295 673.

The process to transfer Domiciliary Care from the State Government to a non-government provider is being coordinated by the Department for Communities and Social Inclusion (DCSI) and the Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF).
